About Murphy Home

Established in 1974, Murphy Home is one of Ireland’s leading independent, family-owned furniture retailers. With six stores nationwide and a strong, award-winning online presence, the company offers a carefully selected range of furniture and home accessories for Irish homes.

SAP Business One supports Murphy Home’s core finance, procurement, inventory and warehousing processes. It also acts as the primary source of product, stock and pricing information used by the company’s ecommerce platform.

The Objective

As Murphy Home continued to develop its ecommerce business, the company decided to move its online store from WooCommerce to Magento 2.

A key requirement was to maintain a reliable connection between the new Magento platform and SAP Business One. The existing WooCommerce integration had been extensively customised around Murphy Home’s operational requirements, so the new solution needed to retain those important capabilities while creating a platform that could support future growth and development.

The transition also needed to be completed without disrupting the finance, logistics, distribution and ecommerce teams that rely on accurate and timely data throughout the order process.

The Integration challenge

Murphy Home operates a complex inventory environment involving multiple locations, purchase orders, product availability dates, pricing structures and custom SAP applications.

The new integration needed to support the automatic exchange of key information between SAP Business One and Magento 2, including:

Product details and attributes

Stock availability

Recommended retail, previous and current selling prices

Available-to-promise dates

In-store display locations

Customer and order information

Click & Collect orders

Payments through Stripe, Humm and PayPal

The solution also needed to work alongside Murphy Home’s existing SAP applications and customised business processes.

The Solution

InGold Solutions implemented its SAP Business One and Magento 2 integration solution, adapting it to meet Murphy Home’s specific operational requirements.

Under the new structure, SAP Business One remains the primary source for product, stock, pricing and availability information. Magento 2 sends customer, order and payment information back to SAP, supporting a consistent flow of information across both systems.

The integration includes customised functionality for:

Managing RRP, previous and current selling prices at SKU level

Updating product availability dates from SAP

Displaying the Murphy Home stores in which individual products can be viewed

Transferring online and Click & Collect orders into SAP by line item

Creating or updating customer business partner records

Posting incoming payments from Stripe, Humm and PayPal

Supporting recycled and reused product SKUs

Data flows between SAP Business One and Magento 2

On top of these flows, the connector needed custom logic for separate tax rates, Murphy Home's Product Recycling Service and creation of incoming payments entering SAP for Stripe, Humm and PayPal.

The Result

The integration has reduced manual data entry and improved the movement of product, stock, pricing, customer, order and payment information between Magento 2 and SAP Business One. The company has achieved significant time savings on many of these data transfer tasks.

Customers now have access to more current product availability, pricing and display information online, while Murphy Home’s internal teams have greater visibility of the information passing between the two platforms.

The solution has also provided Murphy Home with a more scalable foundation for the continued development of its ecommerce offering, product catalogue and customer experience.

Looking ahead

With Magento 2 and SAP Business One working as one system, Murphy Home has a platform that can grow alongside its catalogue and locations without adding manual work. The ability to further develop the SAP Business One Connector allows Murphy Home future scope to pass valuable product data from Magento store and progressive UX improvements.
